'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas' starring John Cho - trailer review

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas

Directed by: Todd Strauss-Schulson Starring: John Cho, Kal Penn, Neil Patrick Harris Rating:R Release Date: November 4, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 8/10

Thoughts by TSR: I admit, I'm a sucker for Harold and Kumar. No, seriously, the day that Kal Penn gave up acting for the Obama administration, my first thought was, "Is this the end of Harold & Kumar?" Yeah, I know, I've got great priorities.

But with this trailer, I'm reminded all the reasons why I love the franchise. Sure, I was a little worried about the canned sentimentality that usually comes with the "holiday movie" territory, but Harold & Kumar's irreverence is still definitely intact.

What I think I find most refreshing about this trailer is that, as much as I love a good stoner comedy, they've evolved. They've graduated from he standard pot humor. Yes, for true fans of the franchise, there's still a little here and there, but even the meta thing (with the 3D) shows that the comedy of these movies is actually growing up a little.

But who are we kidding? If I'm in it for this one, it's for the comedic gold that they give NPH. Hell, this movie might actually be enough to make me forgive him for The Smurfs. I'm not making any promises, but if his exchange with Jesus is any indication, this movie could become a holiday classic for me.
