In the movies, happy Couples are boring. At the least, they don't tend to make us laugh. (Yes, I'm sure there's an example somewhere that will prove me wrong). But here's a group of pairings that are going to focus on the "fun" of "dysfunctional marriages" and (hopefully) bring more laughter than pain in Couples Retreat. Coming out this October, the comedy about friends going together to a type of relationship rehab stars Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Watchmen's Malin Akerman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis and Faizon Love, to name a few.
Call me crazy, but there's no way that Couples Retreat could be a disaster. Despite the somewhat chaotic characters of the film, the cast members are nothing but a harmonious chorus of comedy - a plethora of funny personalities that have shown off their laugh stripes numerous times before. Even Malin Akerman was amusing in The Brothers Solomon and The Heartbreak Kid. And you might even recognize Faizon Love from bringing the few laughs of Who's Your Caddy?. But with "Arrested Development's" Jason Bateman, Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Sex and the City's Kristin Davis and even Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Kristen Bell, how could this film not make us laugh? Couples Retreat has the kind of matching we could only dream about.
Couples Retreat starts October 9, 2009. Yes, that's the same day as Zombieland. For all you couples planning on one or the other, maybe you should compromise and just see both?
