Thoughts by TSR: I’m going to let you all in on a little secret. I have never been on a mescaline-fueled odyssey through Chile in search of a cactus. Shocking, I know, since I fancy myself something of a great adventurer. Still, I think the feel of this trailer is pretty close to what the experience would actually be like. The whole thing feels kind of shaggy and unrefined, the two and a half minute trailer a bit long and aimless at times. But at the end of it I know I want to spend time with Crystal Fairy.
Michael Cera seems to be in the jerk mode that I really like him in. I grew kind of tired of Cera for a couple years, but I've been back on his side thanks to Youth in Revolt, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and most recently being one of the more appealing parts of the hit-or-miss “Arrested Development” revival. This looks like another good role for him. To be honest, every film should allow Cera to run like a goofball while wearing short shorts and carrying a big cactus. Gaby Hoffmann also looks quite appealing as carefree Crystal Hairy Hairy Fairy Crystal Fairy. I don’t know that it’s an absolutely essential film to check out this month. I do know that I’ll be happy to accompany these characters on their Chilean adventure.
