Thoughts by TSR: The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event of the year. Last year's game ended up being the most-watched program in U.S. TV history! Naturally, the fine folks behind World War Z shelled out a few million dollars to promote their expensive summer movie. And... this is what they came up with? This is basically all the same stuff that was in the terribly mediocre trailer from back in December. It might not be so bad if the footage had been more intriguing in the first place, but it's very disappointing as the film's big Super Bowl showcase.
Even without knowing about the numerous production woes, I fear this film faces an uphill climb. While we have four months left until release, it's worrisome that it's still not particularly clear that we're dealing with zombies. Last time I likened the CGI swarm to Black Friday shoppers. This time they might as well be fans of the Baltimore Ravens rioting after their Super Bowl victory. I like Brad Pitt. I like Marc Foster (well, I love Stranger Than Fiction at least). I like Max Brooks' novel. I even like Mireille Enos, one of the few people who came out of AMC's terrible "The Killing" mostly unscathed. Sadly, this just isn't adding up. Maybe low expectations will work to the film's benefit. After this Super Bowl spot, my expectations couldn't be much lower.
