'The Baytown Outlaws' starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria - trailer review

The Baytown Outlaws Directed by: Barry Battles Starring: Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria, Daniel Cudmore Rating: R Release Date: January 18, 2013 (VOD on December 4, 2012)

TRAILER SCORE: 3/10

Thoughts by TSR: Joe Carnahan's Smokin' Aces came to mind while watching this trailer. That's a film I enjoy watching from time to time, so on paper that wouldn't necessarily be the worst comparison to be made. Unfortunately, this doesn't have quite as strong of a cast as that film, something that adds to the sense that The Baytown Outlaws is simply a cheaper, even scuzzier knockoff.

I like a couple of the supporting players (while there are a million rounds of ammunition fired, the most exciting part is when Andre Braugher pops up for one second), but I guess Eva Longoria and Billy Bob Thornton are the ones who are supposed to get me to check this out. Pity then that Thornton is an actor I've never particularly cared for (though he is great in The Man Who Wasn't There). Thornton shouting about this and that is basically the height of unappealing. Still, it could have been worth giving a look on demand if the rest of it looked more fun. The Oodie brothers just make me fondly remember the Tremor brothers, and none of the other killing teams seem very interesting. I hadn't heard of The Baytown Outlaws before seeing this trailer. I don't suspect I'll be thinking about it again.
