'Deadfall' starring Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde - trailer review

Deadfall Directed by: Stefan Ruzowitzky Starring: Eric Bana, Olivia Wilde, Charlie Hunnam Rating: R Release Date: December 7, 2012 (VOD on November 1, 2012)

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: This trailer for Deadfall doesn’t make it look like a master class in story or dialogue – though “It’s a good sign when you feel a little bad” is a well-delivered line – but it still sells a film I’ll be happy to watch. I like a chilly thriller as much as the next person, and this fits that bill perfectly. True, it’s not the most original trailer. There are still enough intriguing things to sell me, most of which occur during the montage at the end – the dinner scene appears to bring some of the stellar cast together, so I’m curious to see how that will play out.

One potential negative is that the trailer seems to give a lot away. Perhaps there is more to the Eric Bana side of things. Bana looks good – his accent will probably be criticized, but I don’t hate it – so I hope he doesn’t actually disappear for an extended period of time. Just because I want more Bana, however, doesn’t mean the rest of the cast looks bad. Olivia Wilde stands out, especially when being seductive in the car after getting picked up by Charlie Hunnam’s character. Sissy Spacek, Kris Kristofferson, and the lovely Kate Mara round out the cast nicely. Deadfall isn't the most original of stories by any stretch of the imagination, but the atmosphere and cast makes it one I plan on checking out.
