'The Bourne Legacy' starring Jeremy Renner and Edward Norton - feature trailer review
The Bourne Legacy Directed by: Tony Gilroy Starring: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton Rating: PG-13 Release Date: August 3, 2012
TRAILER SCORE: 8/10
Thoughts by TSR: This film is nowhere near the top of my must-see list, but everything I’ve seen from it has made it look quite good. As I said when I wrote about the initial teaser, I like the Damon-starring Bourne films just fine, but wouldn’t have really cared if I ever saw another film set in this world. Well, Damon’s gone – though not forgotten, as Jason Bourne’s name is all over this trailer – and Jeremy Renner is taking the reins. He looks great, and even though I’m not overly excited, this trailer makes The Bourne Legacy look like a very promising action film.
What interests me most is that it appears to run concurrent with events in Damon’s trilogy. That’s probably the best possible route this film could take, though I do hope Damon is left out. The apparent structure would make a cameo easy, but Renner is a strong enough performer to carry this. He’s not alone, however. It’s nice to see people like David Strathairn return, and newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, and Oscar Isaacs are all great to have on board. While this trailer isn’t as enigmatic as the first teaser, it still doesn’t feel like it gives everything away. The cast and small pieces of story shown here should be more than enough.
The only thing I’m unsure about is Weisz’s explanation (altered chromosomes) for Renner’s character’s abilities. But I’ll wait for the film to see how I feel about that. Everything else? Sold! I’m still not dying to see it, but I’ll happily do so after it hits theaters.
