'Flight' starring Denzel Washington - trailer review
Flight Directed by: Robert Zemeckis Starring: Denzel Washington, Don Cheadle, John Goodman Rating: Not Yet Rated Release Date: November 2, 2012
TRAILER SCORE: 6/10
Thoughts by TSR: I wasn’t sure we’d ever see another live action film from Robert Zemeckis. I’m not even a huge fan, but I’m still very pleased that there will be at least a temporary break from the haunting dead eyes found in the motion capture work he’s been doing for the past decade. This trailer for Flight does have me interested, but I have my issues.
The plane crash that apparently will get the plot rolling looks very well done – it could rival 2012’s other horrific cinematic place crash (seen in The Grey) – but I wish the trailer hadn’t shown so much of it. And that right there is my biggest problem. It isn’t just the crash they show too much of, it’s everything. Obviously there is still plenty of room for the film to provide some strong human moments – with the cast it has, it would be a major disappointment if it doesn’t – but this seems to hit pretty much all the plot points. Hopefully there will be some things left to discover when the film comes, or else this could eventually end up alongside Cast Away as another Zemeckis trailer that unfortunately shows the entire film.
That aside, however, this looks like a solid bit of character based drama. It could prove to be a terrific showcase for Denzel Washington, and I look forward to supporting performances from great actors such as Bruce Greenwood and Don Cheadle. This isn’t a great trailer, but there’s enough here to have me intrigued. And looking at the recent output from its director, that is good enough.
