'Iron Sky' starring Udo Kier - trailer review

Iron Sky Directed by: Timo Vuorensola Starring: Udo Kier, Götz Otto, Stephanie Paul Rating: Not Yet Rated Release Date: April 4, 2012

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: It’s happening! We’re finally getting that movie about moon Nazis we’ve always wanted! It features Udo Kier as the Moon Führer, a parody of Sarah Palin as the President of the United States, and Nazis that operate out of a swastika shaped base on the dark side of the moon. This is just like it was in my dreams!

I may be slightly overselling my excitement, but I really do think this looks fun. It’s hard to guess how well it will play as a feature-length film, but it works as a two-minute trailer designed to make me want to see it. It isn’t just the crazy premise that hooked me; moon Nazis by themselves aren’t enough. It would have been easy to let the insanity do all the work and not bother with the actual craft. That’s not the case here, as this looks to be a technically well-made film – especially in the visual effects department.

Director Timo Vuorensola and everyone involved appear to know exactly what kind of film they are making, and if it goes well I could imagine this becoming something of a cult favorite. Unfortunately, I suspect the novelty is going to wear thin long before the credits roll on Iron Sky. If that’s the case it will be a shame, but at least we’ll always have this trailer in all its gleefully insane glory.
