TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: I keep waiting for this film to stumble and convince me it won’t be any good. That’s not the attitude I want to have, but dusting off these characters after so many years just doesn’t seem like it should work. And yet, I’ve enjoyed just about everything I’ve seen from American Reunion.

The word choice there is the key. I said I’ve enjoyed everything, which is true. What I didn’t say is that I’ve found everything hilarious. Both this and the photobooth teaser work on a nostalgic level, but there hasn’t been much in the way of outright laughs. A trailer for a film like this can have difficulties being overly funny if it's not red band, so hopefully it’s a sign that they are saving a lot of the best, most raunchy material for the film. It doesn’t come out until April of next year, so it would be foolish to give up the good stuff this early.

Besides, it’s not like the trailer is entirely devoid of funny moments. Stifler somehow continues to make me laugh, especially when he’s declaring his favorite “Twilight” novel is “New Moon” at a high school beach party. The moment with Stifler at work early in the trailer is mean-spirited, but it made me laugh all the same. He’s still loud. He’s still obnoxious. Yep, he’s still the Stifler we know and love (or loathe, depending on your taste).

Stiffler’s mom and Jim’s dad potentially hooking up could also be a goldmine. Should be interesting to see how Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) - who shares quite a history with Stifler's mom - reacts to this development.

While the characters might have gotten older, that doesn’t mean they’ve changed all that much. I doubt this trailer is going to drastically alter how anyone feels about this film, but keep this in mind: American Reunion is the only place you’re going to be able to see The Sherminator and MILF Guy #2 next spring. That right there is worth the price of admission.
