TRAILER SCORE: 7/10
Thoughts by TSR: It's not easy to sell me on a teaser trailer. My boyish curiosity tends to find them frustrating and, as a whole, uninteresting. That being said, I will admit my bias as a fan of the previous two films in [Rec] series and an avid horror fan, but even knowing all that, [Rec] 3 Genesis definitely tapped into something.
The easiest comparison is to the ad campaign of the second movie Resident Evil franchise where it started out as a make-up ad before the young woman decayed in front of your eyes? Does anybody remember the one I'm talking about? Anyways, [Rec] 3 Genesis employs that same kind of trickery. You think it's going to be some sort of madcap romance before it devolves into something grotesque.
Considering it's only 48 seconds, they do spend a little too much time with the wedding pictures before letting us in on the joke. Still, they had enough time to spare to satiate some of my bloodlust, so I'll give them credit for that. Even the sound design for this one is kind of impressive, as we go from the sweet string quartet to the sounds of screams and chainsaws. It was a brilliant move on their part.
More importantly, this is one of the few teaser trailers I can honestly say I don't find myself annoyed by. Sure, I'm not exactly clued into the plot details, but they delivered that first scare to get me hoooked and they managed to spill a little blood and guts to satisfy the gore fans. certainly not for everyone, this looks like a solid addition to what is quickly becoming one of my favorite horror franchises.
