'The Skin I Live In' starring Antonio Banderas - trailer review
The Skin I Live In Directed by: Pedro Almodovar Starring: Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya Rating: R Release Date: October 14, 2011 (limited)
TRAILER SCORE: 4/10
Thoughts by TSR: If it makes any sense at all, I found this trailer to be both edgy and boring at the same time. I found it to be both a bit distressing and a somewhat yawn-inducing. I believe the discomfort I experienced while watching this trailer was mostly due to the pounding/chaotic music. Watching the trailer with sound off confirms this, though there's still enough disturbing imagery here to induce a little queasiness (i.e. the weird man licking the computer screen). I wonder if anyone will lick their screen while watching this trailer? Lord, I hope not.
Moving on...
This trailer definitely failed at piquing my interest. The visual content seemed lacking stylistically. I found myself thinking about how good the Sleeping Beauty trailer was, I think mostly because the genre/vibe of the films seem similar, but maybe my undying crush on Emily Browning has more to do with it? I'm not sure.
On another personal note, I am easily bored with Antonio Banderas, and so yeah, enter the yawns. I understand Almodovar is a remarkable director, but I've just never really taken to him, and again, here's another reason why this trailer failed to get me excited.
Truth be told: I wanted to escape from the 'reality' of The Skin I Live In.
