'Johnny English Reborn' starring Rowan Atkinson - trailer review

Johnny English Reborn Directed by: Oliver Parker Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Rosamund Pike, Dominic West Rating: PG Release Date: October 28, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

Thoughts by TSR: A very well done trailer, very effective in making good on the delayed gratification model. I loved the eruption of sound and energy at the mid-point, when it's finally unveiled to the unsuspecting audience that this is the next Johnny English film. For those unschooled in the character, he's the C-class cut-rate James Bond as played expertly by the ingenious and peerless Rowan Atkinson.

I loved the first film, so I'm certainly biased in my attitude about this one. All that aside though, there were a lot of funny moments in this trailer, and I'd probably be interested in seeing this film even if I'd never before seen Atkinson at work.

As it stands, I really enjoy Atkinson a ton, and I've loved basically everything he's ever done (Black Adder, The Thin Blue Line, Mr. Bean). I'm looking forward to this film a ton, even more so now, after watching this trailer a couple times.

My only complaint regarding this trailer: I was surprised that Rosamund Pike failed to appear in this trailer. She's a world-class beauty, and a good actress, and presumably a major player in the tale of Johnny English Reborn. Kind of odd to leave her out.

It's refreshing to see that the PG rating is still used from time to time -- hats off to Rowan for that!

I'm so glad that he's still at work.
