'Thor' starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman - trailer review

Thor Directed by: Kenneth Branagh Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman Rating: NR Release Date: May 6, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 8/10

Thoughts by TSR: It's nice to see a sort of equal opportunity trailer like we've got with Thor here. What I mean by that is, Thor's trailer has something to offer the fanboys and fangirls, but it doesn't ever really forget about its "mainstream" crowd. It's a lowest common denominator kind of trailer without ever really pandering.

Now, some may be wondering which category I fall into, and I can assure you, as big of a comic book fan as I am, I have no real stance on Thor. I never gave it much of a shot, but this movie is making me re-think that decision. Chris Hemsworth commands the screen as Thor. He's got the look, he's got the attitude, and it's nice to see that he's even got the whole "other worldly" thing down by tossing out a few quips here and there.

Still, you can't accuse the trailer of neglecting any of its other stars. While it's definitely got a central focus, the trailer does a good job at giving us a glimpse of all of the major players in this movie. It's a rarity that comic book movie trailers ever try to sell much else than spectacle, but Thor drew me in with its clear-cut narrative as well as its dazzling visual effects. All in all, Thor is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated movies of the blockbuster season.
