'Fast Five' starring Vin Diesel and The Rock - trailer review

Fast Five Directed by: Justin Lin Starring: Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Rating: Not Rated Release Date: April 29, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 9/10

Thoughts by TSR: I saw this preview on the IMAX screen the other day and it looked AMAZING. But it wasn't just the hugeness of the screen, it was also the awesomeness of Vin Diesel back where he belongs. Kicking ass, taking names and driving really f**king fast. But wait, the trailer becomes hugely more awesome with the arrival of The Rock as some sort of law enforcement agent out to get Diesel's Dominic Toretto character. I guess The Rock is playing a character too, I mean that crazy-man goatee can't be for real. But the joy here is seeing both actors eschew their kiddie movie personas to play huge badasses back where they belong.

Beyond my gushing over the actors, there are some truly great moments in this trailer. Just look at that final shot with Diesel and Walker riding a convertible off a cliff. And you know they're going to survive because in these movies, Diesel is unkillable! And so is Walker though lord knows no one cares about his character. His cop is so boring I don't want to give him a name. The only downside is the absence of a strong female action star, Jordana Brewster can't hold a candle to Michelle Rodriguez. Still, I have high hopes for this one.
