'Gnomeo and Juliet' starring Michael Caine and Maggie Smith - trailer review

Gnomeo and Juliet Directed by:  Kelly Asbury Starring: Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, James McAvoy, Emily Blunt Rating: G Release Date: February 11, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 5/10

MY THOUGHTS: As the title suggests, the film is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet.  The difference being that the two leads are played by, um, garden gnomes.  Yes, the ceramic kind, only they come to life.  In this story, the blue hatted gnomes hate the red hatted gnomes and vice-versa.  It sounds very silly and the trailer doesn't give me much hope.  Surprisingly, the gnomes look really cute though.  I was more charmed by them than I expected to be.  Plus, the roster of voice talent is pretty sweet.  Caine and Smith are supporting characters to the leads, McAvoy and Blunt who play the titular lovers.  The film also boasts Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart and Ozzy Osborne(?!).  Judging by the trailer, this isn't one that I'd rush right out and see, but it doesn't look horrible.  It might actually be good.
