'Limitless' starring Bradley Cooper - trailer review

Limitless Directed by: Neil Burger Starring: Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Abbie Cornish Rating: NR Release Date: March 18, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

MY THOUGHTS: What would life be like if you had the ability to use your brain to its maximum potential? It's an interesting idea, I'll give them that. Or at least, that's how it starts out. Where it goes from there? Well, watch for yourself.

At the heart of this story is down on his luck Bradley Cooper (like anybody would believe that he could be down on his luck...) whose life is transformed by a miracle drug that allows him to use all of his brainpower. Still with me? Good, because maybe you can help me out from here...

Where the movie goes is into a 2 minute sequence of "look how much expensive crap we can cram into one trailer" and that's sort of where it loses me. In fact, by the end, Bradley Cooper seems like a bit of an asshole and the sicker part of me wants to see him brought down for his arrogance.

Still, that's not what this really about, is it? Much like the film's premise, this trailer is about potential. The potential to be something interesting, maybe even a thought provoking commentary on America's reliance on medication to make it through the day. At its worst, it could be a derivative, cliche of an action movie. What it boils down to is that I legitimately think that there is more at work here than the trailer is showing. Based on the trailer alone, Limitless doesn't look like it might amount to much, but there's a world of possibility beyond what we're shown here.
