'Fast Five' starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker - trailer review

Fast Five Directed by: Justin Lin Starring: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson Rating: TBD Release Date: April 29, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 8/10

MY THOUGHTS: I really enjoyed this trailer. The high energy, live-by-the-seat-of-your-pants lifestyle of the many colorful characters of the Fast/Furious franchise makes for an excellent invitation. This film, like it's predecessors, promises beautiful locations, beautiful women, beautiful cars, and plenty of adrenaline to keep your senses primed to appreciate it all. I love the idea of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel versus Dwayne Johnson. How much more testosterone can you fit on one dragstrip?

So it's gonna be: Rock vs. Diesel. Who wins? Who cares! As long as there's plenty of screeching tires, twisted metal, nitrous-oxide, mini-skirts, and loud boom-boom music, the standard Fast/Furious fans will be well satisfied. I count myself amongst their ranks.

I loved the music in this trailer, and thought the exterior shots of Rio De Janeiro looked great. I've always thought Rio De Janeiro (Portuguese for "River of January") made for an excellent cinematic backdrop, see City of God, and The Incredible Hulk. Matching up this haphazardly built city with the standard Fast/Furious hijinks looks to make for a great ride.

As a side, I've never been too fond of Michelle Rodgriguez, and so I'm glad that she won't be around for Fast Five. That's good too, makes plenty of sense, as her character died in the last one. I wanted to get that jab in there, while I could.

Fast Five was directed by Justin Lin, the same fellow who brought us the last chapter of the series. This trailer suggests that Fast Five will be similar to the last film, although it does look like they've taken it all to another level.
