'Cowboys & Aliens' starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford - trailer review
Cowboys & Aliens Directed by: Jon Favreau Starring: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde Rating: NR Release Date: July 29, 2011
TRAILER SCORE: 7/10
MY THOUGHTS: Let me start off by saying that I am looking forward to this film but a lot of people have been putting the horse before the cart with this one. Does it sound like an awesome premise? Yeah, I'd definitely watch it for that alone, but what the trailer gives away feels more like a teaser trailer to me. It's enough to entice me, but it doesn't say a whole lot to me.
Still, it's off to a great start. I've been excited since I heard that Favreau was directing (as a fanboy and Favreau is such a fanboy director) and the cast as well. I was a little nervous for Daniel Craig, but as he did with the Bond franchise (RIP? Maybe?) I think he can bring that same sense of danger and style to this role that speaks for itself.
But it's not just the names either. The scenery and the set that is shown in the trailer is simplistic, but reminds of John Ford or Sergio Leone westerns. It's simple and minimalist, but more than enough for the story's purpose. After all, we're talking about a big budget blockbuster so where would we be without the special effects? Cowboys & Aliens doesn't push the spectacle too much, but just enough to give audiences a taste. What it's shaping up to be is, arguably, one of the definitive fanboy (and fangirl) movies of the summer. Hopefully by then, they'll provide a stronger trailer.
