'Red Riding Hood' starring Amanda Seyfried - teaser trailer review
Red Riding Hood - teaser trailer Directed by: Catherine Hardwicke Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Billy Burke Rating: NR Release Date: March 11, 2011
TRAILER SCORE: 6/10
MY THOUGHTS: Catherine Hardwicke's got a lot to make up for with some of her past movie choices and no, I'm not just talking about Twilight. Still, I tried to keep an open mind as I watched this teaser and I hafta say, I was expecting a lot worse. The trailer takes the beloved story of Little Red Riding Hood and puts a different spin on it. See, in English Lit. we were always told that it was a metaphor for a young girl's journey into womanhood, but I'm pretty sure Hardwicke's taking a different approach. Last I checked, womanhood wasn't synonymous with werewolf... Still, as ludicrous as it sounds, I'm willing to forgive a little. It's true, there's also a fairly contrived forbidden love angle going on and I'm hoping Amanda Seyfried doesn't deliver all her lines in a breathy, soap operatic tone, but I'll wait for a longer trailer before I make up my mind on this one. After all, it's shot beautifully and that's got to count for something. Still, ditching the "alternative" music that took me out of the trailer and it could be something worth investing in. Bottom line is Red Riding Hood doesn't look half bad, but I'm reserving the right to change my mind until we get a better trailer.
