Your Highness Directed by: David Gordon Green Starring: Natalie Portman, Danny McBride, James Franco, Zooey Deschanel Rating: R Release Date: Month April 8, 2011
TRAILER SCORE: 7/10
MY THOUGHTS: What are we going to do with this confusing, yet totally awesome mixture of predictable formula plus rockin' cast? If this movie has nobody in it, then we all know it's stupid and we don't have to waste any time or money on it...but Natalie Portman? James Franco? Come on, man!
I mean it's almost fill-in-the-blanks! Danny McBride insisting on wearing armor at the top of a staircase? Oh, because he's going to topple down the staircase and that hasn't been funny in ages. You can close your eyes and dictate this trailer, but...Natalie Portman? Franco and McBride reuniting from Pineapple Express? McBride warning Franco to "handle his sh*t" in a faux English accent in a Medieval setting? My God, what just happened? It's awful...it's spectacular...it's a sham...it's unique...how do we accept this?
We must approach with caution. So what if the special effects look surprisingly good - an infusion of cash after the success of Pineapple Express, no doubt - and the cast is to die for? You still have lines like, "...with magic, motherf*cker" like all it takes for comedy is anachronistic vulgarity, which usually means a movie is going to really overshoot its mark.
So, I'll just have to throw myself on the grenade for the good of humanity and go see the movie as soon as I possibly can. I'm doing it for you, folks. No need to thank me - just doin' my job.
