‘Sanctum’ starring Richard Roxburgh – trailer review
Sanctum Directed by: Alister Grierson Starring: Richard Roxburgh, Rhys Wakefield, Alice Parkinson Rating: NR Release Date: February 4, 2011
TRAILER SCORE: 6/10
MY THOUGHTS:
The first thing this trailer wants to get across is that you're watching a James Cameron film. He didn't direct it or write it, but he's listed as a producer. So it's probably the next Avatar! And of course, it's in 3D. The film stars a group of more or less unknowns, Roxburgh is the only one I'm familiar with and he is best known as The Duke in Moulin Rouge. Still the action looks decent and there may be a good story there.
I was rolling with the trailer until the whole "Inspired by True Events" thing. I'm actually reading a book right now about super cave exploration so I'm kind of inclined to dismiss parts of it as fiction just based on the trailer. Though to be fair, if it ends up being awesome I am willing to accept fiction. But ever since I found out The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was "Inspired" by Ed Gein (totally not the same thing). You don't have to pretend your story is true, there's nothing wrong with making stuff up.
This might actually be a good film, despite the fact it's planning to come out in the wasteland that is February. I'm going to go optimist on this.
