'Scream 4' starring Neve Campbell - teaser trailer review

Scream 4 - teaser trailer Directed by: Wes Craven Starring: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette Rating: NR Release Date: April 15, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 6/10

MY THOUGHTS: Do I have a soft spot for the Scream franchise? Against better judgment, yeah, I admit it, I do. I wasn't keen on a number four in the "trilogy" (is that one of the "new" rules that Scream is supposed to be breaking? Because I could've sworn trilogy meant three) but I admit, the idea is warming up to me. But it's in the same sort of way that I eventually warmed up to Snakes on a Plane. I'm expecting a bit of a trainwreck from Mr. Wes "Master of Horror" Craven, who thoroughly disappointed with My Soul to Take, but after Scream 3, how much lower can they sink? We get it, you're meta, but times have changed. After all, the self referential thing that the first three Scream movies did could have even been seen as unconventional at the time. By now, as the trailer even says, the pay off has got to be bigger. I'm hoping that they can deliver, but after this teaser trailer, I'm not expecting much besides the slew of cameos. Considering release isn't til next year, plenty of things could change between now and then, but as it stands now? I'll probably be one of those people standing in line on opening night, but rest assured, I'll be hating myself for it.
