'The Tourist' starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie - trailer review
The Tourist Directed by: Florian Henckel von Donnersmack Starring: Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany Rating: NR Release Date: December 10, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 7/10
MY THOUGHTS: Let's get the obvious out of the way, shall we? Yes, The Tourist is going to draw some comparisons to Knight and Day but with a gender role reversal. But is that a good thing or a bad thing? I can't tell quite yet. As one of the few people who saw Knight and Day (and it was for TSR) I couldn't help but enjoy it, but the movie could've functioned better with two different actors. Enter The Tourist. Angelina Jolie is looking gorgeous and smokey-eyed for half the trailer, while Depp spends the other half bumbling around. It's not exactly comedic gold, but the sights of Venice are lure enough. Still, if you ask me it seems like the whole "accidental assassin" thing is becoming as tired as the "pretty people have it hard too, okay?" message that Hollywood seems to keep selling. Sure, people keep buying it, especially with Jolie and Depp pushing the product, but I still can't decide if it it's a good thing. Suffice it to say, in a worst case scenario The Tourist can rely on the pretty scenery of Venice to bail it out, but knowing Jolie's knack for action flicks and against better judgment, I'd probably check this one out.
