'127 Hours' starring James Franco - trailer review
127 Hours Directed by: Danny Boyle Starring: James Franco, Amber Tamblyn, Kate Mara Rating: R Release Date: November 5, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 7/10
MY THOUGHTS: Believe me, this trailer's not perfect. After the success of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire only a few years ago it seems that they'd waste 15 seconds assembling a little clip show of his work when so many people know it. I know, 15 seconds doesn't sound like a ton, but when we're looking at a 1 min and 45 sec trailer, it's precious time. Still, after I got over my initial confusion, the trailer kicks into high gear. It offers mind blowing scenery, so there's plenty of eye candy to lure audiences in. But just as quickly, it turns ugly. Most people know the story of Aron Ralston, the adventurer who was forced to amputate his own arm to save himself. I wouldn't have immediately thought of Franco for the role, but he looks like he does a pretty solid job as the main character. Even more promising, as awful as it may sound, is that there are already reports of such graphic violence in the film that paramedics had to be called. Now I know that's something we've all heard before (Blair Witch Project anyone?) and that doesn't guarantee a delivery, but it at least warrants a look. That being said, if anyone can overcome the curse of the "fighting for survival... in the same location for the entire movie" curse that Open Water left us with, it's Boyle.
