'The Green Hornet' starring Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz - trailer review

The Green Hornet Directed by: Michel Gondry Starring: Seth Rogen, Tom Wilkinson, Cameron Diaz Rating: NR Release Date: January, 2011

TRAILER SCORE: 7/10

MY THOUGHTS: I never watched the original show so I can't share the outrage of some fans, but as far as crime fighting duos go, this looks like pretty standard fare. Seth Rogen's got the chops to pull off the comedic relief, but I'm hoping that there's more of an effort to make the audience laugh than what was shown in the trailer. There were a couple of chuckles here and there, but nothing really uproarious. I know this is sacrilege in the film community, but I can't say Michel Gondry seems like the right choice to direct this. I loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but since then I haven't been too impressed and definitely not with his comedic work. Gondry works really well on a strictly visual level, but other than that, there's not much to set this apart from the other superhero stuff. Still, in the end, when going into a movie like this, I'm not expecting to be blown away by concept. I mean, most superhero movie fans would agree I think that there's not a whole lot to do to reinvent the genre here. As something mindless and entertaining, I definitely expect The Green Hornet to work, but I'm not expecting much more than something pretty.
