'Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore' - trailer review

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore Directed by: Brad Peyton Starring: Chris O'Donnell, Jack McBrayer, Christina Applegate Rating: PG Release Date: July 30, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 2/10

MY THOUGHTS: Let me start off with a question. Does anybody who "enjoyed", and I use that term loosely, the original even go to see talking animal movies anymore? I mean, why wait 9 years for a sequel? Maybe they're hoping to bring in a new audience, but with a stinker of a trailer like this? Those of you who may have read my Marmaduke review know how I feel about talking animal movies. It's Homeward Bound or bust. Still, it's hard to believe that any one could like a movie like this, but when it comes out, I may be surprised. With a provocative title that's undoubtedly supposed to remind us of Pussy Galore from James Bond fame, the trailer suggests a failed attempt at other pop culture references. Even if they succeeded the question remains who those references were for. I understand that every kid's movie likes to throw in a little adult humor to keep the parents happy (check out the catnip scene in the trailer to see for yourself) but such a huge reference as that? It seems like the director can't make up his mind who he's making the film for. Is it the kids or the adults? By the end of the trailer, I couldn't care less. All I know is it's definitely not for me.
