'Easy A' starring Emma Stone & Amanda Bynes - trailer review

Easy A Directed by: Will Gluck Starring: Emma Stone, Amanda Bynes, Lisa Kudrow Rating: NR Release Date: September 17, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 6/10

MY THOUGHTS: It’s a shame that some things seem to work better on paper. That’s at least the case with Easy A. It sounds like it could be a scathing social commentary with a biting wit (well, at least in the same way that Mean Girls was) but it doesn’t seem to fully realize its potential with this trailer. Sure, there are plenty of parts that drew cheap laughs, but as a guy, speaking for all the guys of the world, there’s just not that much humor for me in getting punched in the balls. In fact, most of the weaker parts of the trailer are the parts that rely so heavily on physical comedy. Stone can pull it off, but it just doesn’t work for me. Still, it’s nice to see her getting consistent work. I was a huge fan of Stone in Zombieland and even chuckled to myself when forced to watch The House Bunny so if anybody has the chops to pull this role off, I think Emma Stone was the right choice. Honestly, I think that’s why I’m a little bummed at some of the cheap laughs, because I know she can do better, but still, she’s definitely a draw. In the end, this movie looks like it has plenty of funny moments before its inevitable Hallmark movie of the month conclusion, but I won’t be rushing to the theaters any time soon to take it in.
