'The Adjustment Bureau' starring Matt Damon - trailer review
The Adjustment Bureau Directed by: George Nolfi Starring: Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, John Slattery Rating: NR Release Date: September 17, 2010
TRAILER SCORE: 5/10
MY THOUGHTS: Matt Damon has never had much box office charm for me. I mean, sure he’s good looking, but that’s never been enough for me to blindly follow him into whatever movie he appears in next. The Adjustment Bureau is no exception. I was really torn on this one because I wanted the trailer to be great and I ended up with… well, with this. It’s hard to tell if it wants to sell itself as a thriller, romance, or even possibly sci-fi. The only problem with that is then I have no idea what it really is. The stakes don’t seem high enough for a thriller, or even realistic for that matter. A one night stand and all of a sudden these two are in love? That rules out a romance because I’m not buying what these folks are selling. That only leaves the sci-fi genre. I’m not that big into sci-fi, but every so often something will come along and force me to make an exception. This film isn’t it. It might have had the opportunity to be it, if it had come out in 1998. I could be wrong, but this film looks exactly like the 1998 film Dark City which is a great movie, but I don’t need to see it again starring Matt Damon. The only real reason this movie even warrants a five for me is the cast. Emily Blunt, John Slattery, and Malcolm McDowell may be able to save this tired movie, but I’ll wait till it comes out to rent to find out if they do.
