'The American' starring George Clooney - trailer review

The American Directed by: Anton Corbijn Starring: George Clooney, Violante Placido, Thekla Reuten Rating: NR Release Date: September 1, 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 5/10

MY THOUGHTS: Let me get one thing out before everybody starts freaking out about how I wasn’t much of a fan of this trailer. I’m not a big George Clooney guy, but it’s not because I don’t like him. In fact, in a way you could say that I’m not excited for this movie because I do like him. George Clooney is a talented actor, but in a lot of instances (note how I said a lot, but not all) I find him playing pretty much the same character. This middle-aged, wounded bird character isn’t a flattering look on anyone, but Clooney’s been riding around on this image and his disturbing good looks (seriously, how does he look like that at his age?) for a little too long for me. Throw in the fact that the story itself isn’t very compelling and, I’m sorry, I just can’t get it up for this movie. The lonely assassin’s last job as a movie has just become such a cliché that I can’t much stand it anymore. I don’t know if it’s just the trailer or the movie itself, but this movie doesn’t look too memorable to me, but check it out for yourselves.
