'Shelter' starring Julianne Moore - trailer review

Shelter Directed by: Måns Mårlind Starring: Julianne Moore, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jeffery DeMunn Rating: NR Release Date: TBA 2010

TRAILER SCORE: 6/10

MY THOUGHTS: This whole format of “woman of science is directly confronted by the devil” is surprisingly common and typically bland. I have to give credit where credit is due, the genre is typically characterized by its defensive attitude towards religion so having Moore play a woman of science who’s also a woman of God (her words in the trailer) is a minor, but interesting twist. Most of the movie looks like standard fare and while no rating or release date has been set yet, it’s a pretty safe bet that this will be one of those forgettable PG-13 releases that Paramount squeezes out in desperation. The most promising aspect of the movie, for me at least, is the inclusion of Julianne Moore. True, she’s done some bad ones (It was only while writing this that I remembered The Forgotten) but there’s something about her that makes her fun for me to watch even in the worst movies. Plus, I’m admittedly a sucker for scary movies so while this may only be average fare; it still may be worth checking out. The trailer provides enough suspense and intrigue to keep me interested. Hopefully this one won’t be as forgettable as The Forgotten.
