MY THOUGHTS:
Now in the 2000's, for Gordon Gecko, the famous villain from Oliver Stone's 80's classic Wall Street, things have changed. His gigantic "mobile phone" is of no use, the silk handkerchief is probably no longer in style, and he is no longer at the top of Wall Street. The premise of this sequel seems to be that all of this doesn't matter, as his motto "Greed is good" has now been adapted to "Greed is legal." Thus, we can expect Gecko to rise back to the top (while sinking lower than before) while dealing with some disillusioned whippersnapper (this time played by Shia LaBeouf). While the existence of a sequel to Wall Street might live up to Gecko's model more than Hollywood executives would like to admit, it's possible this movie could stand as an intelligent case study to how things have and have not changed since the 80's. With Oliver Stone at the helm once again, we can count on some commentary, but who knows how deep such representations of walking suits and stock market shenanigans will cut.
And to be honest, I had no idea this film was coming out so soon. But the trailer is worth a glance, even if the music is the most striking aspect of the preview (next to Gecko's phone gag, perhaps).
