MY THOUGHTS:
Robert Pattinson can act? It's too soon to judge, but this trailer for his latest drama indicates Hollywood could be in for a surprise when this film opens in more than a month. Of course this is just a collection of organized snippets from the final product, but the overall feeling of Pattinson in this trailer is certainly mature, and progressive from his recent reputation of being a stone-faced teenager who listens to too much Smiths (in The Twilight Saga: New Moon). It's like Pattinson has chosen a role that is only somewhat familiar territory, as being a high schooler is nothing different for him, but playing a (hopefully) more developed young man certainly is. He has played a love interest before, but not with much soul.
I see bits of DiCaprio when I watch Pattinson in this preview, in the way that an actor known for his looks and fanbase can find a way to be taken seriously, albeit with a few decent scripts. I can certainly picture the possibility of Robert Pattinson moving beyond his safety franchise, and towards more heartfelt material. Films that have legs not just because of their pop culture releveance, at least.
Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper are also in the film, with Brosnan looking especially promising as a selfish father that is usually rebelled against by their jaded offspring. But at the end of the trailer, the only name that stands out to me is truly director Allen Coulter. He has the chance to make Remember Me a film that could really stick with those who doubt Pattinson's potential.
