Gamer - Trailer
The writing-directing duo of Neveldine/Taylor made the first Crank, then chugged some more Mountain Dew, logged even more Xbox live hours on Gears of War, and wrote the script for what was supposed to be their second film - Gamer. From first look at its trailer, it looks to be more explosive than the first two Crank films - combined. In the not-so-distant future, entertainment has become so sophisticated that it uses real human beings in its video games. In a violent multi-player game, "Slayers" like Gerard Butler's character are restricted by mind-control devices, with their every move delegated by human players. Created by a "reclusive billionaire" played by Michael C. Hall, the game uses death row inmates and allows them freedom if they survive thirty matches.
At one time called Citizen Game, the movie has a pretty full cast with names like John Leguizamo, Kyra Sedgwick, Terry Crews, and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges.
It seems like Neveldine/Taylor have done it again in creating a concept that is both admirably unique and allowing for as much chaos as possible. This one feels like it will channel the dreams of every kid playing video games today, offering a hefty amount of car smashes, explosions, and big guns all while empowering up video games.
Gamer will be surely a heavenly dream for its title demographic, but will probably be inviting to most sci-fi and action fans when it crashes into theaters September 4.
