Plot: There is a shake, meatball and box of French fries ... but you know them better as Master Shake, Meatwad and Frylock and together they are Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The TV show gets the big-screen makeover and the film explores the mysterious circumstances that brought these three together. A piece of exercise equipment, known as the Insanoflex, threatens to destroy the universe (I think). The Plutonians and the Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past are joining forces to take control of the deadly device. Who will save the day? Who cares? Who’s it for: Only those that are rabid fans of the TV show on Adult Swim. And even some of them will be disappointed that the 15-minute TV show doesn’t translate to a full-length movie.
Expectations: I had never seen an episode before watching the film, although I know some of my friends loved it. I also knew it’s not necessarily trying to make sense. I love when cartoons attempt and succeed with adult humor, so I was open-minded.
SCORECARD
Actors: Of the main three, I liked Frylock the best, it seems like his character has range ... and a brain. Master Shake and Meatwad are stuck in thoughts of flexing their muscles and not much else. The Cybernetic Ghost likes to hump things, and hump is a funny word, but after the first time, the joke was old. The most amusing characters were the Atari looking guys and their ray gun. Grade: 2 Sights and sounds: The animation is not something to be ogled. It’s better than “South Park” and not as good as “Ren & Stimpy.” At least with “South Park: The Movie” there were tiny moments where you could see they put more work and money into the animation. Grade: 3 Overall: Please keep in mind, I had never seen an episode of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” nor was I high while watching the movie. I think both things are necessary to truly enjoy “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.” In the beginning, the film had me with an absolutely amazing intro song. The classic popcorn, hot dog and soda sing a sweet song until they run into a heavy metal band (such as nachos playing the drums) that tells you exactly what you can do with your movie theater experience. I was dying laughing, but after that ran out, I was just dying. You should always end a movie better than you started and “Aqua Teen” doesn’t come close. “The Simpsons” better make sure their movie this summer is one of their best episodes ever, I assume “Aqua Teen” can’t say the same. Die-hard fans will simply say that I’m not supposed to get it, and I am absolutely fine with that.
