MOVIE:

I hadn't seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in years. I'm glad to see that I still enjoy it. Still, it seems more tame than I remember. It's still a fun sex farce, but the nudity and sex are implied rather then seen. The most scandalous thing is probably the bulge in Rocky's gold undies. The songs in the film hold up great though, I think my favorite it Meat Loaf's number, "Hot Patootie- Bless My Soul". And despite being a film version of a play, it never gets stagnant, it's very dynamic.

Tim Curry's performance is so amazing. I'd always enjoyed it, but man, he really just throws everything including the kitchen sink in. He manages to be both sexy and sinister and gives a wholly singular interpretation of Frank-N-Furter. A huge part of the success of the film rests on his shoulders.

If you like The Rocky Horror Picture Show then you probably want it for your DVD collection. And despite the fact that you may own another version, you'll probably want this one. The last copy I owned was on VHS, so this is definitely an improvement. There are so many extras I expect it will take weeks to watch them all. The picture quality is great and it's awesome to have both the US and UK versions.

But besides just having the film, you get a pretty good approximation of the full movie theater experience. If you can't make it, want to practice, or are just lazy, you can pretend to be at the theater with a special track that runs during the film. It has a small screen that shows a group of actors performing along with the movie, as well as a flashing on the words that people yell during the film. Excellent for practicing at home so you can show up at the theater and sound like a pro. The trivia track is pretty sweet too. I did not know that Richard O'Brien was in Spice World.

So this is awesome. It's totally worth it.

MOVIE SCORE: 9/10
