Blu-ray Review Family Guy: Something, Something, Something, Dark Side

Directed by: Dominic Polcino Cast: Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green Running Time: 1 hour Rating: TV-14 Due Out: December 22, 2010 Buy - Something Something Something Dark Side [Blu-ray] on Amazon

PLOT: "The Family Guy" crew take over the roles from The Empire Strikes Back. Peter is Han Solo, Lois is Princess Leia, Chris is Luke Skywalker, Brian is Chewbacca and Stewie is Dark Vader. Hilarity ensues.

WHO'S IT FOR? Anybody who likes "The Family Guy" will be happy enough, but knowing and loving The Empire Strikes Back is key. Plus, you can't love Empire too much, to the point where you aren't willing to laugh at it.

MOVIE:

For most of us, watching Empire probably happens once every two or three years. We know every part, almost every line ... "I love you," and the response, "I know." So, getting to experience the film in a slightly different way is great. Wait, did I say slight different? OK, everything has "The Family Guy" wrinkle put on it, and I'm glad it does. For me, pointing out the oddity of Luke fighting Vader on the Dagobah system is perfect material for Seth McFarlane to make fun of. Two moments stand out for me. One, the Juicy Fruit commercial. I haven't seen or thought about that commercial for years, but it all came flooding back. It's got a taste that gets right to ya. Sure, everybody younger than 25 has no clue what I am talking about, but that's the brilliance of McFarlane. Second, Luke's statement that, "I would give my right hand for this day to end." Killed me. Easy to watch over and over again, and I can't wait for the trilogy to be complete.

MOVIE SCORE: 8/10

OVERALL

Is this one for kids? Teenagers? The Family Guy - Something, Something, Something, Dark Side may just be for the 30-year-old crowd. Here's why I say that; the key to loving this DVD is that you know Empire quite well. Are parents doing a good job with this? Are kids growing up watching episodes 4, 5 and 6 over and over again? With a heavy emphasis on Empire, of course. It's scary to think a teenager would watch this and think that Mort Goldman as Lando Calrissian is NOT an inside joke.
