Looks like both Ruffcorn and Kersten underestimated the appeal of Captain America, which managed to upset the final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise to take home number one at the box office. The Marvel hero failed to impress Bayer, but that didn't stop him from winning over the hearts (and paychecks) of many Americans in its opening weekend.
Potter fell on hard times in its second weekend, but that's somewhat understandable with such an epic movie event. It seems most people rushed out to see it opening weekend, which left with some lesser returns in its second weekend.
Friends with Benefits trailed in a distant third, failing to provide much competition in the box office game. Despite the charm of Timberlake and Kunis, it seems that people still remember the burn from No Strings Attached, at least enough to scare off some potential viewers.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon has had a long stay on the top five of the box office, and this weekend is no different. Even though it's pulling in fourth, the Michael Bay film has the unique distinction of being the longest-running movie of the top five at the box office.
Finally, Horrible Bosses is showing some pretty horrible box office results. It's put up a valiant effort and for all its charm, it's hard for a comedy to compete with some of the blockbusters out there. This could very well be its last weekend on the top five.
Calhoun Kersten vs. Aaron Ruffcorn
Each weekend Kersten and Ruffcorn go head to head in the Box Office Challenge, trying to pick the correct Number One film in America and how much money it will make.
This weekend ... No one wins!
Season record: 7-6 (Score remains the same)
Thoughts by TSR: It seems like Ruffcorn and Kersten both failed to get the memo that people actually wanted to see Captain America. Kersten may have gotten the numbers right, but both failed to predict the right movie.
