The competition this weekend is scarce, but who will take home first? Will it be the out of this world Green Lantern or the chilly children's movie Mr. Popper's Penguins?
My best guess is that the DC superhero will be saving the day at the box office this weekend. Besides having bankable stars like Reynolds, it might prove intriguing enough to get the fanboy (and don't forget our fangirls) money. While we might be a small population, us comic book geeks, no one can accuse of us not being loyal, and that loyalty might be enough to edge Green lantern in as the clear winner.
Mr. Popper's Penguins unfortunately doesn't seem to have the same strength of a superhero. Based on a book that most people have already forgotten, the film hasn't had a lot of buzz, positive or otherwise. My guess is Carrey will be left out in the cold with this one.
Other Summer favorites, such as the stellar Super 8 and X-Men: First Class might be able to hold their own in the top five, but it's not likely they'll be able to hold onto their former glory. Then again, who knows what the weekend holds?
