TSR's complete Film Review Database

After many months of hype, Thor finally worm-holed his way onto the big-screen, and dropped his mighty hammer, making quite an impression, bringing in $66 million.  Thor was well received amongst the critics and general populace alike, somewhat rare for a film of its kind. Fast Five had an excellent second weekend, and placed second, earning another $32 million, lifting it to the number one highest grossing film of 2011, to date. Take Fast Five out of the picture, and it stands to reason that Thor would have fared even better at the box office. The past two weekends have been very lucrative for Hollywood, and Thor and Fast Five both garnered high marks from the critics -- all in all a refreshing state of affairs in the world of mainstream cinema.

Jumping the Broom and Something Borrowed finished 3rd and 4th, respectively, with an estimated half a million dollars separating the two. Neither were rated very high by the critics, though Something Borrowed was much more universally panned. Something Borrowed also debuted at nearly 1,000 more theaters than Jumping the Broom, and that's saying quite a bit.

Rio rounded out the top 5 this weekend, with $8.2 million, bringing it's total gross up to $114.9 million, and securing the (tentative) bronze for the highest grossing films of 2011.
