Apparently, Madea's family was not quite big enough to beat the birds.
Rio is tracking better than Rango and Hop through two weeks. Family, 3D, animated. It's the new winning combination. The Jesse Eisenberg voiced Blu continued its winning ways.
Tyler Perry finished second, but the box office draw is very similar to Meet the Browns and Why Did I Get Married Too? You can pretty much pencil in Perry for $20 million+ for his opening weekends.
Robert Pattinson proved he can help open a movie, but Water for Elephants still isn't going to be a box office smash. Perhaps, just perhaps, the Twilight success is due to its subject, and not it's stars.
Hop is in the right place at the right (Easter) time. In it's fourth weekend, it actually did better than its previous. Not matter what the time of year, that's always impressive, even for a movie that feels like Alvin with none of the other chipmunks.
Scream 4 will disappear out of the top five after just two weeks. It appears this franchise didn't need to come back from the dead.
Calhoun Kersten vs. Aaron Ruffcorn
Each weekend Kersten and Ruffcorn go head to head in the Box Office Challenge, trying to pick the correct Top 5. This weekend ... Kersten Wins! Season record: 1-0 Thoughts by TSR: Well, in the first weekend of combination, it was a rough start for both of the boys. So why does Kersten get the edge? Each only had one correct movie in the proper order (Water for Elephants at #3), but Kersten had all five movies, Ruffcorn only had four. Damn those African Cats!
