It was a bloody weekend at the box office. No, I'm not talking about the release of Scream 4 but rather Rio's decisive victory over the box office. The animated bird blockbuster raked in over twice the amount of newcomer Scream 4, which landed in second place.
That's right folks, this weekend wasn't particularly kind to Craven fans. The latest installment of Craven's franchise fell on hard times in its opening weekend. Then again, that's nothing new after last year's My Soul to Take. For those who weren't fans (perhaps our very own Morrow McLaughlin) you'll be glad to know that the lackluster box office returns seem to suggest that Scream and Ghostface might finally be dead this time around.
Hop took home third place in its third weekend, and seems to be steadily on the decline as it saw a sharp drop this weekend with all the newcomers.
Unfortunately, Soul Surfer held its ground this weekend. While fourth place is rarely a great place to be, the fact that it started out there and stayed there again this weekend makes me a little nervous that I might have to actually write it up again in next weekend's box office review.
Finally, Hanna, the movie that sneaked into second place last weekend, fell hard in its sophomore weekend. The little assassin that could just can't seem to keep up with the competition this time around, as it rounds out our top five.
