Box Office Challenge: 'HOP' 'Insidious' and 'Source Code'
Box Office Challenge
Hitting the screens this weekend ...
HOP Insidious Source Code The King's Speech (PG-13 re-release)
TSR's complete Film Review Database
This weekend features a whole host of new movies, each aimed at a pretty distinct audience. It might not matter much to some readers, but for Box Office Challenge enthusiasts, it promises to be a tight race this weekend.
HOP seems like a safe bet to lead the weekend. Not counting all the money spent on marketing (seriously, half of last week's 30 Rock was blocked by a giant Easter egg), it's got the largest appeal, with families and Brand fans alike.
Source Code may have the strength to follow up the Easter-themed comedy. Jake Gyllenhaal didn't have a whole lot of luck with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time but Source Code has a promising premise, plus guaranteed multiple explosions for action fans.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules may take away from some of HOP's earnings, splitting the family crowd, but I don't think the Easter bunny has too much to worry about. Then again, Rodrick's lead last weekend seems to indicate he might not be falling too far this time around.
Limitless will more than likely snag fourth place with all these new contenders. Still, Bradley Cooper could stand to do worse. I mean, let's not forget The A-Team.
Finally, Insidious may not have the pull to make it any higher on the top five. In fact, fifth place seems pretty optimistic, but what can I say? I'm a half-full kinda guy, especially when it comes to horror movies that I'd like to see do well.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of March 1 - 3 …
1. HOP ($23 million)
2. Source Code
3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
4. Limitless
5. Insidious
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
