Box Office Challenge
Hitting the screens this weekend ...
The Roommate Sanctum
TSR's complete Film Review Database
This week features a couple new releases, but if we're being perfectly honest, the string of bad luck at the box office seems to be continuing into February.
The Roommate has a sort of lowest common denominator "creepy" feel to it, so it's probably got the best chance at the box office this weekend.
Then again, The Rite still has a shot, but considering it's somewhat lame opening weekend numbers, I'm not counting on it pulling into number one, but it definitely has a shot at second place.
Sanctum may have James cameron on board, but they kind of shot off their own foot with that R rating. Not even 3D sales can make up for the amount of audience that they'll be losing opening weekend.
All the buzz about The King's Speech, especially after its triumph over The Social Network may be enough to keep it in the top five this weekend and even send it back up to fourth place. After all, it's the little movie that could.
Finally, No Strings Attached should roll into last place with all the new material that's coming out this weekend and with Academy Awards season just on the horizon.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of Feb. 4-6 …
1. The Roommate ($15 million)
2. The Rite
3. Sanctum
4. The King's Speech
5. No Strings Attached
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
