The Dilemma The Green Hornet The Illusionist (limited) Another Year (limited)
TSR's complete Film Review Database
With January being pretty much an elephant graveyard for studios, there are only a few new releases that are will be making their rounds this weekend.
Luckily for The Green Hornet, with so little competition, it could easily see a first place finish. Sure, it's prospects are a little iffy, but with the 3D gimmick and higher prices, it doesn't even really need to outsell its competition.
Unfortunately, that probably means a second place finish for The Dilemma. I say unfortunately because, if I had my way, we wouldn't even be talking about this movie in the top five, but for proof that America pays good money for bad movies, just check out Little Fockers.
True Grit, after working hard for first place, will probably drop down to number three on the top five given the two new releases. There may be more hope for the Western when Oscars are announced if it fares as well as I'm guessing it will.
Black Swan is pretty much proof of that. The Aronofsky psychological thriller (horror, if you ask me) is expected to perform quite well at this year's awards ceremony and the critical acclaim has already done wonders for it, finally making our top five after six weeks of release.
Finally, TRON:Legacy may just make the final cut. Like I said, it's all about selling the spectacle and TRON: Legacy has got that in spades!
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of Jan 14 to 16 …
1. The Green Hornet ($21 million)
2. The Dilemma
3. True Grit
4. Black Swan
5. TRON: Legacy
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
