It was a busy weekend at the box office, with a slew of new releases hitting the screen just in time for winter break. Of course it's no real surprise that not many of these newcomers could hold a candle to TRON: Legacy which took a decisive lead its opening weekend.
Yogi Bear stole second place. According to our very own Nick Allen, it sounds like the crimes against humanity committed by Yogi Bear hasn't done much to earn it the coveted number two on our top five, but families seem to be desperate for just about any way to keep their kids occupied.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader fell on some hard times this weekend, when it plummeted to number three. It seems like its release couldn't have been more poorly planned as it had to have lost some 3D theaters to TRON: Legacy. Still, according to Bayer folks aren't missing much.
The Fighter put up a helluva fight this weekend. The heavily rumored Oscar contender is already drawing a lot of attention in its wide expansion. Sure, it's not exactly raking in the dough, but it's already secured a spot as one of the most talked about movies of the year so maybe financial success will follow.
Finally, Tangled looks like it on its last leg. It's had a good run but with losing some of the 3D theaters, it's going to have a hard time making a buck as studios up the ante as we draw closer to Christmas. This may be the last weekend we see Tangled on the top five, but it will not soon be forgotten.
