Hitting the screens this weekend ...
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader The Tourist I Love You, Phillip Morris (limited)
TSR's complete Film Review Database
Tis the season for insanely long movie titles, or so it would seem. On one hand, we have a continuation of The Chronicles of Narnia and I Love You, Phillip Morris, but brevity isn't entirely dead. We've got the short and sweet The Tourist opening for those who can't stomach the idea of spending five minutes saying the title of the movie at the box office window.
Still, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader has more going for it than its name. After all, it's coming up on the holiday season and what better way to spend the day than watching a thinly veiled Biblical allegory? Okay, so might may not be my idea of a good time, but with all the pretty effects, I doubt the story will stop this from becoming number one.
In second place, my money is on The Tourist. Despite having two bankable leads, this one isn't being given much of a chance. It's slated to hit significantly less theaters and not being in 3D may seriously hurt its chances as we roll in to the winter break season.
Tangled doesn't have too much to worry about. Sure, it'll suffer this weekend, but it's still got 3D ticket sales to fall back on. All in all, third place may not be ideal, but I think it'll still have plenty to cheer about at the end of the weekend.
Harry Potter and company have had their run and for fans, don't worry, they'll be back next year. But it's about time, we make some new room on the top five and it seems safe to say that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is on its way out.
Finally, it seems that Unstoppable just might live up to its name this weekend. The action flick has spent an unusually long time on the top five and it may be on its way out, but I'm thinking it's still got at least a weekend left in it rounding out our top five.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order). Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of Dec. 10 - 12 …
1. The Chronicles of Narnia: the Voyage of the Dawn Treader ($37 million)
2. The Tourist
3. Tangled
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
5. Unstoppable
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
