Horror reigns supreme at the box office this weekend. But only barely. Both Calhoun Kersten and Jeff Bayer agree The Last Exorcism is worth the time. The adventures of Cotton attempting to expose exorcisms for what they really are is full of great storytelling ... and a disappointing last ten minutes. The opening numbers prove that documentary style horror is the new "in" thing. Paranormal Activity 2 will be looking for a big opening weekend in October.

Just behind The Last Exorcism is Takers. Takers didn't take first place. People still wanted to see a bunch of B-list actors such as Matt Dillon, Hayden Christensen, Idris Elba, Paul Walker, T.I. and Chris Brown strut their stuff in this cops and robbers heist movie. My hunch is it disappears from the Top 5 after next week.

The Expendables is holding on at the end of summer. Sylvester Stallone knew what he was doing when he put together every known 80s action star and a couple of new ones. It's too bad he didn't make a more entertaining movie. I don't think Lionsgate complaining about that though.

Eat Pray Love is still comma-less and still holding on at the top. Julia Roberts sells tickets. That's all that needs to be said about that.

The Other Guys with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg is a comedy with some legs. Clearly, this will be the last time in appears in the Top 5, but it's sitting at $99 million and will clearly get over the century mark.

Next week get ready for Going the Distance, Machete and The American. Jeff Bayer's favorite movie of this group may just surprise you.
