This weekend offers very little variety, but I doubt that’ll hurt the box office. Take your pick between sci-fi or fantasy, because in terms of new releases, you’ve pretty much got Inception or The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

With the weight of the director, Christopher Nolan, alone, I bet Inception will storm the box office. It’s not for everyone, but Nolan fans as well as fans of its all-star cast won’t be disappointed.

Second place belongs to The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Nic Cage hasn’t struck box office gold for a while and Lord knows he needs it, but aside from his personal troubles, this movie offers dazzling visual effects and plenty of fun. While a Wednesday release may have helped the box office, there’s no telling what it’ll do to their opening weekend numbers, but here’s hoping.

Third place is Despicable Me in all of its animated charm. The 3D gimmick will definitely help keep this one afloat, but who knows for how long? It seems a safe bet this weekend, but I have no idea what’s in store for Carell and crew after this weekend.

Eclipse will probably suffer this weekend with all the new releases. It’s not going to fall too far, but it seems that the franchise has had its 15 minutes of fame, and it’s starting to die down.

Finally, even if it hasn’t received much critical acclaim (or really any) Predators may clean up this weekend. It’s got a loyal fan base that just might keep it in the top five.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of July 16– July 18 …

1. Inception complete Inception coverage

2. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice complete Apprentice coverage

3. Despicable Me complete Despicable coverage

4. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse complete Twilight coverage

5. Predators complete Predators coverage

So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
