Box Office Preview - June 18 - 'Toy Story' and 'Jonah Hex' join the fight
Hitting the screens this week… Toy Story 3 complete Toy Story coverage including Bayer's first TSR 10/10 this year!
Jonah Hex complete Hex coverage including a Megan Fox interview
This weekend sees some new additions to the box office that just might spell trouble for last week’s winners. The long anticipated sequel in the Toy Story franchise is finally making its way to theaters, in 3D no less. Then there’s the less well known comic book story of Jonah Hex which is getting a big screen makeover with an all-star cast.
Considering Toy Story 3 has the family friendly element, which means more tickets, as well as taking 3D screens and IMAX screens, which should put it in the lead. That is to say nothing of the highly positive reviews its been receiving so far. It looks like Woody, Buzz, Jessie can rest easy, at least this weekend.
I don’t think we’ve heard the last from Jaden Smith or The Karate Kid though. Despite a steep drop off over the weekend, this movie’s still leading the way in terms of box office and it’ll take a lot more to change that than Megan Fox.
Still, I’m betting Jonah Hex won’t have the worst opening weekend. The Western/comic book is sure to have a loyal following which just might be its saving grace. So far, buzz has been pretty dead about it, which may spell the kiss of death for this one.
In fourth, I think The A-Team will continue to underwhelm. Judging from his review, it looks like Bayer agrees with me. Either way, the flashback fun doesn’t seem like it’ll be around much longer.
Finally, Shrek and company may be counting their days. Now that there’s something new in town, especially in the 3D market, Shrek Forever After’s spell on audiences everywhere may finally be broken.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of June 18– June 20 …
1. Toy Story 3
2. The Karate Kid
3. Jonah Hex
4. The A-Team
5. Shrek Forever After
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
